About the Arts and Music Line

The Coachella Valley Association of Governments’ (CVAG) is committed to transforming and investing in active transportation in the Coachella Valley through promoting healthier lifestyles, economic innovation, sustainable transportation, and safer connections. To support this mission, CVAG is developing the Arts and Music Line. This project is a 9-mile bike route that will improve the cycling experience and safety for all users along Avenue 48, between Washington Street and Dillon Road out to the Whitewater River. The route will feature local art, and will connect to local schools, housing, retail, festivals, and employment centers in parts of Coachella, Indio, and La Quinta. The path will also connect to the CV Link, a multi-modal pathway for walking, biking, and traveling in low-speed vehicles, at two points.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Active transportation is any form of transportation based on physical activity that does not use a car or public transit. It includes walking, cycling, rolling, skating, and low speed neighborhood electric vehicles like golf carts.

  • Active transportation promotes a healthier lifestyle through increased physical activity, reduces traffic and fatalities, and helps reduce environmental impacts such as pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

  • The Arts and Music line will reinvent the way people travel along Avenue 48 by creating a safe and enjoyable experience for pedestrians and cyclists, all while promoting public health and improved air quality. This bike path will also connect to the 40+ mile CV Link, a multi-modal pathway for walking, biking, and traveling in low-speed vehicles.
